West University/ Southside Place

The neighborhood known as “West U” offers two square miles of low-key, but high-end, living inside the 610 Loop. The first lots went on the market in 1917, and this affluent, autonomous city within a city consistently lands on ”best places to live” lists.

Garden Oaks/Oak Forest Profile

It is the best of both worlds. The Oak Forest and Garden Oaks neighborhoods – sometimes called the GOOF – are both a short drive to the Galleria or downtown Houston, but they also have their own, more easygoing, appeal.

Bellaire

Montrose

River Oaks

In the 1920s, two sons of a former Texas governor began snapping up land around the River Oaks Country Club. Their pioneering master-planned development, now spanning 1,100 acres in west central Houston, remains a model community of gracious, lavish living.

Tanglewood

In 1948, the developer who bought up acres of flat prairie here named his soon-to-be dream community after his daughter’s favorite book, Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Tanglewood Tales. Today, the quiet neighborhood, with its decades-old live oaks and original ranch-style homes, still has a timeless feel.

Pearland

Heights/ Greater Heights

Memorial

Back when Memorial Drive was just a simple country road, it ran alongside a number of small farms that dotted the once–wide open spaces. Now, the long thoroughfare that this neighborhood gets its name from bisects a vibrant residential community nestled between the busy Katy Freeway and the meandering Buffalo Bayou waterway.

Memorial Villages

Just east of the Inner Loop, this cluster of six independent cities (Spring Valley, Hilshire, Hedwig, Bunker Hill, Hunters Creek, and Piney Point) started to blossom after Interstate 10 was built in 1968. While each village has its own personality—not to mention deed restrictions—they each occupy the sweet spot between urban and suburban living, offering the best of both.

Manvel
